The Crucible of Freemen D85xkQp
Species Name: Humanity
Species Adjective: Human
Empire Name: Crucible of Freemen
Empire Adjective: Freeman
Phenotype: Mammalian
Traits: Natural Engineers; Quick Learners; Resilient; Slow Breeders
Ethos: Fanatic Individualist
Government: Indirect Democracy
Homeworld: Earth
Capital World: Haven
Planet Type: Continental

Civilization Type: Fledgling Empire

Short Description of Empire and History: A human colony collapsed and went primitive, then had to restart development from tribes all the way to around the mid-20th century. An authoritarian empire conquered the world recently, then a freedom revolution knocked it down, publicly executed the leadership, and built a democracy. Now the humans have found a relic of the past and have rediscovered FTL communication and travel.

Long Description of Empire:
Spoiler:

Long History:
Spoiler:

Species Description:
Spoiler:

Military: 3
Naval: 1
Ground: 5
An almost eternal amount of war has left a rich history of tactics and strategy to draw from, but the novelty of space travel and the fresh fleet mean that there isn't much experience or naval power to use in the void. There's also all the leftover military equipment and industry from a few world wars in a row as well, but that's planetbound warfare.

Economy: 4
Industry: 2
Tertiary Goods: 4
A booming capitalist economy with industry across the globe? Nice. However, the low level of tech means there are no robotic factories or other more standard manufacturing procedures that other civilizations may have, so the economy isn't as powerful as it otherwise would be.

Technology: 1
Researched: 5
Scavenged: 1
They've built up 99.9% of their present technology on their own, but much of their space tech is from a reverse-engineered ship. The rest of their technology is roughly equivalent to mid-20th century Earth.

Diplomacy: 3
Understanding: 5
Espionage: 1
They're a fresh empire who aren't even sure if there are alien species yet, let alone the customs and weaknesses of those species. Humans will be incapable of even attempting to get spies for a long time, and their democratic nature and current state of peace leaves them without the excuse to say "just trust us, it was the right decision" if KGB and CIA style shenanigans are uncovered and made public. There is little that is both necessary and practical that cannot be achieved without infiltration, such as negotiation, warfare, and psychological operations.

Culture: 5
Internal Stability: 2
Marketability: 4
There are many different and clashing cultures on Haven who were all conquered by the Endless Empire, but there are experienced equivalents of Hollywood on Haven with a thriving entertainment industry from the liberated artists.

Quirk:Cold War Blues」: Humans are adept with grabbing a situation and finding an opportunity. Millennia of warfare and trade have taught them the value of adaptation. More specifically, I am talking about reverse-engineering. Human nations are capable of breaking down objects, dissecting their operation, and reapplying it. "I don't know why the hell this device works, but I know how to stamp metal in the same shapes and hook car batteries to it. Hm, this could be useful for cooking. I'll make a patent on a new type of oven and gun!"

It would seem that your civilization is a crucible in more than just name, a democracy forged from the fires of war. Take care to nurture this flame, lest it die out in the coldness of the void.

Yup yup. The name is literally "the forge of the unenslaved", so the name was somewhat deliberate in its meaning. There wasn't any other global nation on Haven other than the Endless Empire that got overthrown, so naming the new nation after any old one would result in problems, while "the United Nations of Haven" or something similar would encourage national identities and eventual separatism.
